²³ “Now therefore, get rid of the foreign gods that are in your midst, and incline your hearts to Adonai, God of Israel.” ²⁴ And the people said to Joshua, “We will worship none but Adonai our God, and we will obey none but His voice.”

²⁵ So Joshua cut a covenant with the people that day, and set for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
